Executive Director Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh - Pittsburgh, PA business_center Full-time Salary: $45,000.00 - $85,000.00 Annually Application Deadline: Dec 4, 2025 Administrative Executive Director for The Mendelsohn Choir of Pittsburgh The Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh (MCP), one of the country’s longest-standing and most respected symphonic choruses, is seeking a dynamic, visionary, and strategic leader to serve as its next Executive Director . Founded in 1908, MCP has a proud legacy of artistic excellence and innovation, serving as the chorus-in-residence of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and engaging audiences through compelling performances, collaborations, and educational outreach. As we look to the future, we are seeking an Executive Director who will help shape the next chapter of our organization—deepening our impact, expanding our reach, and strengthening our operational foundation. The Executive Director (ED) will be responsible for leading the organization’s administrative functions, working in close partnership with the Artistic Director and Board of Directors. The ideal candidate is an experienced and collaborative leader with a passion for the arts, strong fundraising and financial management skills, and a commitment to community engagement. Key Responsibility Overview Financial Sustainability and Operations Management The Executive Director (ED) is responsible for ensuring the long-term financial health and viability of MCP. The ED is directly responsible for financial planning, forecasting, and reporting and oversees the work of the book keeper ensuring the quality of all required financial internal and external reporting. The ED should ensure appropriate financial controls and Auditor relationships are systematically in place. The ED recruits, hires, and oversees all non-artistic staff and contract services needed to achieve MCP’s strategic objectives, and assists the Music Director in creating, hiring, and evaluating artistic positions. Marketing and Fundraising Leadership The Executive Director (ED) is the Chief Fund-raiser for MCP, developing and deploying comprehensive fundraising strategies and executing those strategies across a broad range of public and private sectors. This includes securing and stewarding financial support from individual donors, foundations, and corporations as well as writing grant applications. In addition, the ED will serve as the public face and principal ambassador of MCP, continually strengthening the choir’s marketing and recognition throughout the community. Duties will include providing and executing marketing strategies and communication pieces that enhance the draw of audiences to choir performances and enhances MCP’s visibility and reputation. Strategic Planning and Board of Directors Relations Management The Executive Director (ED) will build a deep partnership with the Board of Directors as well as be responsible for guidance and governance assistance. Also critical will be the development of the Board’s capabilities in order to ensure that strategic objectives are defined and met and MCP’s future is secured. The ED will also play a key role in assuring strategic plans are developed and updated on a continual basis and that those plans reflect the best opportunity for achieving long term success. Artistic Planning Support The Executive Director (ED) will work seamlessly with the Music Director and have a critical responsibility to ensure artistic short- and long-term programing aligns with the strategic direction of the choir and are complete and fundable. Qualifications Qualifications for this position include at least 5 years of senior management experience in non- profit arts along with a proven track record of successful fundraising, donor relations skills, and grant writing. A successful candidate will have strategic planning experience, effective board relations skills, and knowledge of the professional classical choral music industry. Experience in budgeting, finance, accounting, and/or marketing are desirable, Minimum of a bachelor’s degree is required and an advanced degree such as a Master’s Degree in Arts Management or MBA is desirable. Compensation And Benefits The executive Director reports to MCP’s Board of Directors with direct accountability to the Board President. The Mendelsohn Choir of Pittsburgh will provide a compensation and benefits package in the range of $45,000 - $85,000 annually, commensurate with the candidate’s level of experience.
